TUNISIA September 02. 2024 (Saba) - The Tunisian electoral commission finally approved, on Monday, three candidates, including the outgoing president Kais Saied, and excluded three others from the elections scheduled for October 6.
According to Agence France-Presse, the electoral commission announced the "final and non-appealable" list of candidates, which includes, in addition to Saied (66 years old), former parliamentarian Zuhair al-Maghzawi (59 years old), candidate of the Arab Nationalist People's Movement Party, and former MP Ayachi Zemal (43 years old).
The head of the commission, Farouk Bouasker, justified the rejection of the candidacy of the other three figures in a press conference broadcast on state television, saying that "it was impossible to view copies of the rulings recently issued by the general session of the Administrative Court because the commission was not notified of them according to the law within 48 hours of the date of their announcement by the Administrative Court."
