WASHINGTON August 24. 2024 (Saba) - Russian Ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, confirmed on Saturday, that the new US sanctions on Russia are "reckless steps" that will deepen the crisis, noting that Moscow does not care about Washington's measures taken "to punish the Russian people."
Sputnik Agency quoted Antonov as saying in a statement, "The negativity of US actions is clear to everyone. The reckless steps of the (US) administration lead to deepening the crisis, but not to its beginning. It is clear that the time has come to abandon the dictates of the dollar in order to achieve real independence in the economic sphere."
Antonov added, "I note that such measures have been taken in relation to the numerous sanctions on Russia, and that we actually do not care about what the administration will offer in order to punish the Russian people." He pointed out that "we are doing our best to make our citizens feel calm and not pay attention to US attacks."
He pointed out that the goal of US sanctions is to "demonstrate their anti-Russian essence against the backdrop of the heated election campaign here," noting that they "harm not only domestic consumers, but also America's partners in other countries."
