WASHINGTON August 24. 2024 (Saba) - China has called on the United States to immediately halt all official interactions with Taiwan, emphasizing that this issue is the "first red line" in Sino-American relations.
According to the Russian news agency "TASS," the spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in Washington, Liu Bingyu, reiterated China's firm opposition to any form of official cooperation between the United States and Taiwan. He stressed that the Taiwan issue is central to China's core interests and represents the foremost red line in its relations with the U.S.
Responding to comments from a U.S. administration official about the need for "meaningful dialogue" between mainland China and Taiwan, Liu urged the U.S. to adhere to the "one China" principle and the three joint Sino-American communiques.
He called on the U.S. to follow its leaders' commitments not to support "Taiwan independence" and to immediately cease all official cooperation with Taiwan.
Liu also highlighted that the international community has long recognized China's contributions to global peace, development, and the international order. He urged the U.S. to correct its misunderstandings about China, abandon Cold War-era hostility, and take more concrete actions to promote world peace, stability, and development.
