Chinese Scientists Invent Catapult to Launch Objects from Moon to Earth
[Wed, 21 Aug 2024 23:57:40 +0300]

BEIJING August 21. 2024 (Saba) - Chinese scientists have invented a magnetic unit that cost $18 billion to launch objects from the moon's surface to Earth.

The Chinese newspaper (South China Morning Post) reported on Wednesday that the unit relies on magnetic suspension technology and its operating principle is similar to the physics of hammer throwing, where an arm rotates a capsule containing objects that are launched to Earth with the help of an arm.

It pointed out that the advantages of the moon's surface of course help the level of vacuum and low gravity even to launch two capsules loaded together, which reduces the cost of each capsule by ten percent compared to current methods.

According to the inventors, this unit uses a 50-meter-long arm and a super-thermal motor, and after ten minutes of operation it reaches the second space speed of the moon, which is equivalent to 2.4 km/s.

This system will use solar and atomic energy, and in addition, 70 percent of its costs will be compensated by using the kinetic energy of the arm when braking.

This unit can be used for 20 years, but the implementation of this project and the installation of the 80-ton unit on the surface of the moon will become possible after the invention of a super-heavy transport rocket. This unit may become part of the joint Russian-Chinese lunar station, which is scheduled to be built in 2035 at the South Pole of the moon. According to the inventors, the cost of this project is large - 130 billion yuan (about 18.2 billion dollars), but extracting 3-5 tons of helium-3 per year and transporting it in capsules to Earth allows obtaining 100 billion yuan, because this isotope is considered one of the promising sources of energy. If its reserve on Earth is 0.5 tons, then on the moon it may reach a million tons. Therefore, implementing this project and sending 20 tons of helium-3 to Earth will completely cover China's electricity needs.
