SANA'A August 11. 2024 (Saba) - The Specialized Criminal Division in the capital Sana'a held its first session on Sunday to review the completed case involving 11 defendants in the assassination of Ibrahim al-Houthi.

Presided over by Judge Abdullah Ali al-Najjar, the court read the initial ruling, which convicted ten of the accused and acquitted one. The convicted were found guilty of participating in the kidnapping and killing of Ibrahim Badr al-Din al-Houthi and Mohammed Hussein al-Badr, as well as colluding with the aggression Saudi Arabia with the intent to harm Yemen's political and military standing.

The court sentenced Fahd Abdullah Abduljalil al-Hasani to death by firing squad, while Abdulhafidh Rashid Hussein al-Suhaimi, Nasser Ahmed Mohammed al-Mashmali, Mazen Ahmed Mahyoub Abdullah al-Sawai, and Hussein Mohammed Ali Qaid al-Dawi received ten-year prison sentences.

Additionally, Adnan Ali Hadi Ali Marsh, Bassam Abdo Mohammed Ahmed Al-Mahbashi, Khaled Ali Qaid Hussein al-Dawi, Imad al-Din Abdul Aziz Rajih Ali al-Haddad, and Najib Ezzi Maan Mohammed Ghaleb were sentenced to five years in prison.

The court also ordered the confiscation of the house where the crime took place and the phones used by the convicts. Fouad Noman Mahboob al-Aghbari was acquitted due to a lack of evidence.

The division has allowed the convicts to submit their appeals in the upcoming session.

Previously, on 25 Muharram 1445 AH, the Specialized Criminal Court of First Instance had sentenced 16 defendants to death and handed down prison terms ranging from ten to three years for three others, while referring the remaining suspects back to the Public Prosecution for further investigation.
