SANA'A August 8. 2024 (Saba) - The Capital Sana'a called on citizens not to throw garbage waste in Sana'a liquid, water drainage channels, torrential streams, and streets, due to the health and environmental risks.
The emergency operations room of the municipality explained in a statement - received by Saba that throwing waste into liquid and streets leads to the blockage of torrential channels and streams, causes a lot of material and human damage and floods many streets and neighborhoods with torrents and rainwater.
It pointed out that the capital Sanaa suffers from great difficulties in cleaning water channels and streams, removing waste, and treating flood damage, especially with the continued rainfall, and the flow of massive torrential rains to streets and neighborhoods.
It stressed the importance of concerted local and community efforts in educating citizens about the importance of preserving and cleaning torrential channels and streams, as well as activating initiatives in the work of emergency interventions to address flood damage.
The emergency operations room pointed to the intensive work carried out by the field emergency teams of all concerned executive offices, services, and directorates, to remove flood residues and suction and drain rainwater from streets and tunnels.
It stressed raising the level of preparedness and mobilizing energies and capabilities to face any emergency, treating the discharge of torrents and rainwater, and continuing to clean the channels and streams of torrents in the directorates of the Secretariat, under the emergency plan and work programs.
The Capital Sanaa called on citizens not to swim in Sana'a liquids and rainwater harvesting basins and torrents, because of the risks to their safety and lives. She stressed that it is not for the practice of swimming, which some citizens, as well as children, venture into during heavy rains.
It urged everyone's cooperation in confronting and reducing wrong behaviors and educating the community and parents about the dangers of leaving their children to swim in the liquid and rainwater harvesting ponds, which may lose their lives.
