TEHRAN August 02. 2024 (Saba) - Acting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani on Friday criticized certain European countries for their cooperation with the United States in blocking the UN Security Council's condemnation of the assassination of martyr Ismail Haniyeh.
He emphasized that Iran will undoubtedly exercise its inherent right to respond to the Zionist perpetrators of this crime.
During a phone conversation with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell, Bagheri Kani discussed the implications of the Zionist assassination of Haniyeh, highlighting its impact on Iran's national security and regional stability.
He condemned the terrorist act, noting it not only breached Iran's sovereignty but also threatened international peace.
Bagheri Kani also criticized the role of some European countries in preventing the Security Council from taking action against the assassination, which was requested by Iran.
The Iranian Acting Foreign Minister criticized certain European countries for their actions and silence regarding the Zionist incitement in Yemen and Lebanon. He argued that this stance has emboldened the Zionist entity to persist with its aggressive actions, jeopardizing regional peace and security.
In response, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell acknowledged Iran's right to defend its sovereignty and expressed concern over escalating tensions and the potential for a large-scale regional conflict. He highlighted the impact of such conflicts on the people of the region.
The Acting Iranian Foreign Minister urged the European Union to fulfill its responsibility to maintain international peace by exerting pressure on the Zionist entity to halt its crimes.
He warned that failure to take decisive action could encourage the Israeli government to escalate the conflict, further endangering regional and global security.
