WASHINGTON July 30. 2024 (Saba) - US State Department deputy spokesman Vedant Patel declined to comment on the Zionist attack on the southern suburb of Beirut on Tuesday.
Al-Mayadeen quoted Patel as saying: "There is no comment on the news of the explosion in the southern suburbs." He reiterated the "firm" American position that the United States stands by the "Israel" and supports it with everything it needs.
At the same time, he stressed that his country would continue to "focus on diplomacy." He pointed out that it seeks to "avoid any kind of escalation between the Israel and the Hezbollah."
White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said "we have no comment at this time." She reiterated her belief that all-out war "is not inevitable and avoidable."
During a press conference, she confirmed her regular contact with Zionist officials on a daily basis. She pointed to the importance of reaching "a diplomatic solution, which guarantees non-escalation and the absence of a state of war."
The spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric, said the UNIFIL leadership, UN coordinator Jenin Hannes Plasschaert and the commanders of peacekeeping operations were "in contact in Lebanon in order to prevent a war between the resistance and Israel."
