MOSCOW July 29. 2024 (Saba) - The Russian President Vladimir Putin today said "the process of developing many striking combat systems has entered its final stage", noting that his country would continue to develop the naval forces and provide them with advanced hypersonic missiles.
"Deploying US missiles in Germany directly threatens Russian bases and vital facilities", Putin said in a speech during the main naval parade of the Russian fleet that took place in St. Petersburg, adding: "We will have the right to deploy medium- and short-range missiles in the region."
He pointed out that the development of striking combat systems by Russia comes "in response to the deployment of US missiles around the world".
Putin stated that "this situation is reminiscent of the events of the Cold War, when American medium-range Pershing missiles were deployed in European countries."
The Russian president recalled that the United States has already practiced transferring missile systems from its territory to Denmark and the Philippines.
