SANA'A July 27. 2024 (Saba)— An awareness workshop on the effective control of hazardous chemicals commenced on Saturday in the capital Sana'a, organized by the General Administration of Tariffs in the Customs Authority in collaboration with the Customs Cultural Institute. The workshop, which will span three days, involves 25 participants from customs offices, ports, and centers.
The workshop aims to equip attendees with essential skills and knowledge for managing hazardous chemicals, enhancing chemical security and safety within the authority's inspection, auditing, and modification sectors.
At the opening, Mohammed al-Madani, assistant undersecretary for the customs control sector, emphasized the critical role of customs workers as the core of customs operations. He noted that the workshop is part of ongoing efforts to build inspectors' capabilities and improve their performance in chemical safety.
Faisal al-Thawab, director of the cultural institute, highlighted the workshop's goal of emphasizing the customs role in safeguarding individual, societal, and environmental health from chemical hazards. The training will include practical simulations and hands-on experience in chemical description, classification, and handling.
Dhikra al-Eisaei, Director of Customs Tariff, underscored the importance of the workshop in enhancing participants' expertise related to hazardous materials, contributing to more effective customs operations.
