VIENTIANE July 25. 2024 (Saba) - Russia on Thursday called on China to work together to confront any interference by external forces in the affairs of ASEAN and to make every effort to protect this organization from the intentions of any external parties.
According to the Russia Today website, this came during a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers Conference in Vientiane, Laos.
"Russia and China must work together to confront the interference of forces from outside the region in the affairs of the countries of Southeast Asia (ASEAN), and do everything in their power to ensure that no party is able to destroy this association," Lavrov said.
"Other multilateral platforms are also important, including, of course, ASEAN and the entire structure centered around it. We have a common position... We must do everything to prevent its destruction, and today we talked about this matter in detail in a meeting with our counterpart from Laos," Lavrov added.
"We consider it important to continue this dialogue in order to jointly confront the interference of powers from outside the region in the affairs of Southeast Asia and contribute to well-being and prosperity," Lavrov added.
