SANA'A July 06. 2024 (Saba) - The Traffic Police Command issued directives on Saturday instructing all its members, including the Traffic Control Unit and the Electronic Monitoring Unit, to manage wedding processions that disrupt traffic in the capital Sana'a.
In a statement, the traffic police warned drivers against committing traffic violations during wedding processions, such as removing objects from vehicles, performing parade movements in cars, or stopping in the middle of streets. It emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards such violations.
These practices, seen as misguided expressions of celebration, include driving in unorganized convoys, obstructing traffic, and endangering road users, thereby contributing to increased congestion.
The Traffic Police underscored that these measures align with directives from the Ministry of Interior leadership, prioritizing public safety and facilitating smooth traffic flow. Preventive and control measures will be implemented to curb this behavior, which contradicts Yemen's cultural values.
Citizens were urged to document and report any traffic disruptions caused by these convoys, emphasizing community cooperation in reporting violations. Wedding organizers were also encouraged to collaborate with the traffic police to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow.
The statement stressed the importance of celebrating joy in permissible and civilized ways that do not impede traffic, advising the use of designated lanes to maintain smooth traffic flow.
The Traffic Police expressed optimism that citizens would heed their directives and guidance, promoting personal safety and contributing to a safer and more efficient traffic environment.
