SANA'A July 06. 2024 (Saba) - The Agricultural Cooperative Union, in coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, organized an event on the occasion of the International Day of Cooperatives under the slogan "And cooperate in righteousness".
At the event, which was held in coordination with the Supreme Agricultural and Fisheries Committee, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and the Fund for the Promotion of Agricultural and Fisheries Production, the advisor to the Supreme Political Council, Allama Mohamed Muftah, stressed the importance of strengthening cooperative work to overcome the challenges faced by the agricultural sector in Yemen.
He pointed out that there are many challenges facing agricultural cooperatives, most notably the spread of pests that kill agricultural crops, which have been introduced into the country during the past years with plant consignments. He pointed out that the transfer of these pests to Yemen was carried out within the framework of conspiratorial schemes that were being hatched to destroy the agricultural sector in Yemen.
The advisor to the Supreme Political Council stressed the importance of the Cooperative Union, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and the Higher Agricultural and Fisheries Committee playing their role in marketing and transporting agricultural products, in a way that encourages farmers to expand crop cultivation and achieve revenues that contribute to improving their standard of living.
He urged the Agricultural Cooperative Union to hold a training workshop to enhance the role of agricultural cooperatives and benefit from the allocations that are allocated to promote the agricultural sector and enhance its role in food security.
"Successful and fruitful agricultural cooperative work needs cooperation, initiative and serious action, and the concerned authorities must encourage community initiatives to ensure comprehensive development," he said.
Muftah pointed out that the Yemen will witness a great renaissance that requires the concerted action of all its sons to serve the supreme national interest.
Meanwhile, Assistant Minister of Defense for Human Resources Major General Ali Al-Kuhlani stressed the importance of reviving agricultural cooperative work and concerted efforts to overcome the current stage in a way that enhances stability and steadfastness in the face of aggression and blockade.
He touched on the plans that the American spy network was seeking, which is to destroy the agricultural sector. He considered this an opportunity to be aware of such conspiracies and take advantage of previous mistakes to bring about an agricultural renaissance in light of the revolutionary and political leadership's orientations to encourage cooperative work.
Al-Kuhlani pointed to the importance of cooperation and unifying efforts to support agricultural cooperative work and correct the conditions of agricultural cooperative societies to be effective in performing their tasks.
He pointed to the need to encourage local agricultural products and manufacturing industries that depend on these products in order to contribute to reducing imports.
