ASTANA July 03. 2024 (Saba) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met in Astana on Wednesday during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, discussing various aspects of bilateral relations and cooperation.

President Putin highlighted the positive and steady development of relations between Russia and Turkey, emphasizing the regular exchange of opinions between the two leaders on global matters.

According to the Russian Novosti Agency, the meeting lasted approximately an hour.

President Erdogan, in turn, mentioned his frequent telephone communications with President Putin and ongoing contacts between ministers from both countries.

He expressed eagerness to host President Putin in Turkey at the earliest opportunity, to which President Putin responded with gratitude and a promise to visit.

Economic cooperation was a focal point of the discussions, with Erdogan noting that bilateral trade currently stands at $55 billion annually, with aspirations to increase this to $100 billion.

He underscored the importance of Russian tourists to Turkey and anticipated the operational launch of Akkuyu nuclear power plant.

President Erdogan also emphasized Turkey's commitment to advancing the construction of a nuclear power plant in Sinop.

President Putin reaffirmed that major joint projects between Russia and Turkey are progressing according to schedule, with no interruptions in implementation.
