NOUAKCHOTT June 29. 2024 (Saba) - The Mauritanians on Saturday heads for ballot boxes to elect president, with the outgoing president, Mohamed Ould al-Ghazouani, and another six candidates running for the race.

Among the six candidates, Ghazouani is running the competition against Biram Aabaid, an activist opposing slavery, who was placed second in 2019 elections with 18 percent of votes.

Nearly two million people are registered in ballot lists, as the upcoming president is expected to reverse corruption and create jobs for youths.
