HODEIDA June 25. 2024 (Saba) - The Office of Industry and Trade in Hodeida Province Cracks Down on 63 Food Violations During Eid Al-Adha Market Control Campaign
During the Eid Al-Adha holiday, the Office of Industry and Trade in Hodeida province conducted a rigorous market control campaign that resulted in the detection of 63 food violations and spoiled food items.
Saleh Mohammed, Director of the Office of Industry and Trade, outlined that the campaign targeted a total of 520 shops and establishments across various sectors, including meat shops, slaughterhouses, supermarkets, kiosks, food stores, bakeries, ovens, sales outlets, agents, ice distributors, and retail outlets.
The violations seized during the campaign were categorized into several types: 11 violations for price hikes on meat, 17 for inflated prices of mineral water, 12 for increased prices of restaurant meals, nine violations related to ice factories and distributors, five violations for selling goods unfit for human consumption, seven for underweight bread, and two violations for unannounced price increases on cheese.
In addition to these violations, authorities confiscated 14 expired yogurt cartons, ten unusable ketchup cartons found on two transport trucks, 56 spoiled juice cartons, and a quantity of expired crackers from a grocery store.
The Director General of the Industry Office assured that all necessary actions had been taken in response to the violations uncovered during the campaign.
He commended the diligent efforts of oversight committees deployed in the field, adhering to a comprehensive monitoring plan aimed at safeguarding consumers from unjustified price hikes.
