DOHA June 25. 2024 (Saba) - Hossam Badran, head of the National Relations Office of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, has revealed that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas disrupted the factional meeting that was scheduled in China, stressing that this comes as a continuation of the approach of exclusivity in the Palestinian arena.
Badran said - in a press statement carried by the Palestinian Information Center, the President of the Authority informed the Chinese side of its refusal to participate in the expanded meeting without providing any logical justifications, and without any national dialogues.
He pointed out that Hamas responded to the call of friends in the People's Republic of China related to achieving Palestinian national unity, and dealt with it with great positivity and great responsibility.
He explained that this call, the steps of which were clear from the beginning, as the first meeting was a bilateral meeting between Hamas and Fatah, and this was what took place in April, to be followed by an expanded meeting that included the Palestinian factions, which was supposed to take place on this day.
He further mentioned that Chinese counterparts had been actively engaged recently, conducting meetings with all factions to coordinate and ensure the success of the scheduled expanded meeting. However, as preparations for delegations' travel began, the President of the Palestinian Authority informed the Chinese side of their decision not to participate in the meeting. This decision was made without offering any logical justifications or engaging in national dialogues.
Badran lamented this stance, noting its hindrance to achieving national consensus during a critical stage for the Palestinian people, especially in light of al-Aqsa flood battle. He highlighted Palestinians' demonstration of steadfastness and perseverance, along with the notable efforts of resistance against occupation in the Gaza Strip.
He concluded by stating, "In Hamas movement, we emphasize the importance of convening the expanded national meeting. We firmly believe that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in discussions about organizing the Palestinian community. We view the disruption of the meeting in Beijing as unwarranted, unacceptable, and contrary to the best interests of the Palestinian people."
