SANA'A June 08. 2024 (Saba) - The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation called on all importers of frozen chicken, whether companies or merchants, not to import or bring any shipments into the country without obtaining prior permits.
The Ministry reiterated its emphasis on continuing to ban the import of frozen chicken in order to encourage and protect local production in a way that does not affect small poultry producers and breeders, with the aim of reaching self-sufficiency in implementation of the directives of the Revolutionary Leadership and the Supreme Political Council.
In a statement issued by it and received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the Ministry stressed the need for importers of frozen chicken to adhere to the laws and regulations regulating the import process, which stipulate the prohibition of importing any animal consignments into the Republic of Yemen except after obtaining prior written permits for import from the competent authority.
It also stressed the importance of adhering to Ministerial Resolution No. (20) of 2024, the first article of which stipulates that “the import of frozen chicken will continue to be suspended during the remainder of the year 2024, and deterrent measures and fines will be applied in accordance with the law to anyone who imports any shipments without prior authorization.”
The statement stressed that if such shipments are entered, the Ministry will not hesitate to take strict measures against violators, who disposed of those shipments before they were subject to all technical and quarantine procedures, including health investigations, and until laboratory results appear by the General Administration of Animal Health and Veterinary Quarantine. Which were found to be free of any contaminants or pathogens that threaten the health of citizens as well as the health of animals.
It pointed out that the Ministry will work to circulate and publish a black list of the names of companies importing frozen chicken or importers who do not adhere to the laws , procedures, and will officially issue a circular not to deal with them.
