GAZA May 10. 2024 (Saba) - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has again called on UNRWA to cease fire in the Gaza Strip, saying it is the only way to avoid further casualties.
The Agency also renewed its call for the resumption of aid distributions, which have become urgently necessary.
UNRWA said in a statement published on Platform X on Friday that the intensive bombardment of the Zionist enemy forces on Rafah led to further forced displacement, with some 110,000 people fleeing in search of safe shelter. However, living conditions in the Gaza Strip remain extremely difficult, and an immediate ceasefire is the only hope to save the situation.
In addition to the constant threat of military operations, UN aid agencies have warned that the humanitarian operation in the Strip has been severely disrupted since Zionist tanks entered the Rafah border crossing on Monday.
Hamish Young, UNICEF's senior emergency coordinator in the Gaza Strip, stressed that it is impossible to avoid a worsening of the crisis unless humanitarian operations are revived within the next 48 hours.
According to the latest imagery provided by UNRWA, there is a continuous flow of Palestinians leaving east of Rafah city towards Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah, which lack basic services such as food, shelter and health care.
Young explained that the roads leading to the coastal area of Al-Mawasi, to which the Palestinian authorities have issued instructions to move, are congested, and that families suffer from a lack of sanitation, drinking water and shelter, which makes them turn to temporary solutions such as excavations in the land to build simple sanitation facilities.
