[16/April/2024]

MUSCAT April 16, 2024 (Saba) - The authorities in the Sultanate of Oman reported that at least 16 people, most of them students, were killed as a result of torrents sweeping the country, which witnessed thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rains and strong winds.

It is expected that the bad weather conditions in the Sultanate of Oman will reach their peak today, Tuesday, and will continue until Wednesday evening, and will be affected in the coming hours by other Gulf countries, including Bahrain and the Emirates.

The Oman News Agency announced on Monday evening, citing the Search and Rescue Sector of the National Emergency Management System, that “a dead person was found” in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, “bringing the total number of deaths as a result of the weather condition to 17 deaths.”

Earlier Monday, the agency reported that the bodies of three people and a child were found, in addition to recording on Sunday “12 deaths as a result of them being swept away in their vehicles,” including two citizens and a foreigner, in addition to nine students in the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, located in the east of the country, about 150 km from the capital, Muscat.
