CAIRO Jan 08. 2024 (SABA) - The Council of the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate approved the recommendation of the Board of Trustees of the Egyptian Press Awards to nominate Al Jazeera correspondent and its bureau chief in the Gaza Strip, Wael Al-Dahdouh, to receive the “Freedom of the Press” Award for the year 2024, to glorify his steadfastness and the steadfastness of Palestinian journalists in the face of Zionist aggression.
According to Ma'an News Agency, Al-Dahdouh was given this award in recognition of his professional role, after he set an example of sacrifice in order to convey the truth, and after he paid the price for his loyalty to his profession and his professionalism by targeting his wife, two of his sons, and his grandson, who became martyrs.
It is noteworthy that the “Freedom of the Press” Award is given to journalists who play a prominent role in defending press freedom, whether through their writing, journalistic work, positions, or intellectual and union activities, or who are exposed to pressure because of their defense of press freedom and the rights of journalists.
It is noteworthy that more than 110 journalists have been martyred since the beginning of the Zionist aggression on the Gaza Strip, which has continued since the seventh of last October.
