Al-Hamli discusses with Acting United Nations Resident Coordinator decision's consequences to stop aid

SANA'A December 11. 2023 (Saba)-Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation(SCMCHA), Ibrahim Al-Hamli, met today, Monday,in Hodeida province, with the Acting United Nations Resident Coordinator in Yemen, Peter Hawkins.

In the meeting, Al-Hamli reviewed the repercussions of the WFP’s decision to stop distributing food aid, pointing out the suffering that this decision will cause to the neediest families, and the worsening of human suffering, which poses a threat to the lives of millions.

He warned of the dangerous effects resulting from the decision to stop food aid, and its impact on millions of Yemenis.

He pointed out that the Council proposed many solutions that would ensure the continued disbursement of humanitarian aid to the most needy people, but they were rejected.

Al-Hamli held the United Nations accountable for the consequences of this disastrous decision, calling for a reversal of the suspension of food aid and work to continue disbursement to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe and a rise in cases of malnutrition.

For his part, the Acting Resident Coordinator stressed that he is working diligently to ensure that aid is not stopped in light of the great humanitarian need for it.
