SANA'A December 11. 2023 (Saba)-The mayor of the capital, Dr. Hamoud Abbad, and the regional director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNEPS), Muhammad Othman, were briefed on the progress of work on the project to rehabilitate the main sewage line in Sana’a, at a cost of six million and 400 thousand dollars.

Abbad and Othman, along with the Undersecretary for the Projects Sector, Engineer Abdul Karim Al-Houthi, the Assistant Undersecretary, Engineer Abdullah Rawiya, the Directors of the Water and Sanitation Corporation, Engineer Muhammad Madaes, the UNEPS Office in Yemen, Engineer Fayyad Rasoul, the Projects Advisor, Dr. Khaldoun Salem, and the Deputy Director of the Office, Engineer Abdul Wahab Salah, learned about the nature of the work. It was implemented within the first phase and the completion rate reached 60 percent.

During the visit, Abbad stressed the importance of this project to rehabilitate the two paths of the main sewage conveyor line, which represented a danger to the historic city of Sana'a, the population environment, and the environment, since the old lines had ended their lifespan.

He appreciated the efforts of the United Nations Office for Project Services to implement this project, which is considered one of the most important projects that will serve the secretariat of the capital and its infrastructure, including its high specifications in terms of its lifespan, which may reach one hundred years and serve the population expansion in the secretariat.

Abbad pointed out that the President Mahdi Al-Mashat is following up on the implementation of this service project, expressing his hope to complete the implementation of the final stages of rehabilitating the main sewage line that represents the southern side, with the support and funding of donors through UNEPS.

Meanwhile, officials of the United Nations Office for Project Services expressed their readiness to cooperate with the Municipality of the Capital by searching for funding to complete the remaining phase of the project.
