SCMCHA discusses with OCHA office director in Yemen repercussions of stopping food aid
[Mon, 11 Dec 2023 20:57:58 +0300]

SANA'A December 11. 2023 (Saba)-The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for the Administration and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation(SCMCHA), Ibrahim Al-Hamli, met today,Monday, in Hodeida, with the Director of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Markus Werne .

In the meeting, Al-Hamli reviewed the repercussions of stopping disastrous food aid, which will exacerbate the worst humanitarian suffering in the world that the Yemeni people are experiencing as a result of the aggression and siege.

Al-Hamli pointed out that the Council made great efforts with the WFP and proposed a number of solutions to ensure the continued disbursement of humanitarian aid to the most needy people, but they were rejected.

He considered that the politicization of aid is a crime against humanity, violates all international conventions, laws, treaties, and exposes the lives of millions of affected people to the risk of famine and death.

Al-Hamli pointed out that the repercussions of the decision to stop aid are catastrophic and dangerous to the lives of millions of needy people as a result of this disastrous decision against the Yemeni people, blaming the Food Program for the consequences of this decision.

He called on the Food Program to withdraw from stopping food aid and work to continue disbursement, as it will exacerbate the humanitarian catastrophe of high incidences of malnutrition and food insecurity.

For his part, Werne confirmed that he is working with the World Food Program to find solutions for the continued disbursement of aid.
