GAZA November 30. 2023 (Saba) - The American Zionist aggression against the Gaza Strip since October 7 has led to the departure of more than 17,000 foreign workers from the occupied Palestinian territories.
Director of the Immigration Authority at the Zionist Ministry of the Interior Eyal Siso told the Zionist newspaper Maariv that 9,855 Thai workers in the agricultural sector, 4,331 workers in the construction sector, and 2,997 in the nursing sector left the entity.
In addition, 85,000 Palestinian workers from the West Bank were not allowed to enter the entity, and thus there is a shortage of about 100,000 foreign and Palestinian workers currently.
Siso added "The mass departure of thousands of Thai workers came after a request from the Thai government, which asked them to leave Israel, in light of the difficult events since the outbreak of the war, especially after some of them were detained."
After the departure of some foreign workers and the prevention of the entry of most Palestinian workers, the need emerged for workers in the agricultural, construction and nursing sectors.
Siso pointed out that the ministry worked around the clock to fill the need for foreign workers by going to countries between which there are agreements with Israel, and in light of this, 3,485 workers from India, the Philippines and Sri Lanka entered, and work was done to significantly increase the quotas of incoming foreign workers. From India from 30,000 to 50,000, and the quotas of workers coming from Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan were raised.
He claimed that "with his encouragement, foreign workers began arriving from African countries to work in the field of agriculture, including Zambia and Malawi, and communications began to bring foreign workers from Moldova and Georgia."
Siso explained that it was decided to extend work permits for foreign workers in the nursing, agricultural and construction sectors. In addition, a temporary permit for three months was granted to private companies to bring in foreign workers, according to the standards.
Siso claimed that "Israel" is still continuing to introduce Jordanian workers into the hotel sector, and 1,100 Jordanian workers are currently working in hotels in Eilat. During the peak tourism season, 2,000 Jordanian workers are working in Eilat.
According to estimates, Siso stated that “Israel will be forced in the future to take the decision to allow the entry of a portion of Palestinian workers in the West Bank into the construction and agricultural sectors.”
