Transport Minister: There is no bargaining or concession on the full opening of Sana'a International Airport
[Tue, 03 Oct 2023 18:48:30 +0300]

SANA'A October 03.2023 (Saba)-Transport Minister in the caretaker government, Abdul Wahab Al-Durrah, confirmed the impossibility of returning to point zero regarding lifting the siege on Sana'a International Airport , imposing temporary patchwork and partial solutions.

Minister Al-Durra said in a meeting of Transport Ministry's leadership, its sectors, bodies and institutions today, “There is no bargaining or concession on the full opening of airports as an inalienable right and a project guaranteed by all international laws and conventions.”

He pointed out that the suspension of Yemen Airways flights through Sana'a International Airport, and the closure of the airport are an indication of the aggression countries’ lack of seriousness in their serious approach to peace and their disdain for all efforts made in this regard.

He also pointed out that the Yemen Airways Company positions itself as a tool in the hands of the aggression countries to continue the siege and double the suffering of the Yemeni people.

Al-Durra called on the leadership of Yemen Airways to carry out its business from the company's main center in Sana'a, which has the company's capabilities, buildings, and central aircraft workshop.
He stressed that it will find all support to provide its services to all the Yemeni people from all the republic's airports as a national carrier.

He said, "Most of Yemen Airways' revenues come from sick and poor people traveling from the free provinces, and the company must benefit from those revenues to purchase an air fleet to serve them and deliver them to all required destinations."

For his part, Transport Deputy Minister Muhammad Al-Hashemi confirmed that opening Sana'a International Airport has become an absolute necessity without any condition or restriction, pointing to the insistence of the Supreme Political Council on this.

He said, "Opening Sana'a airport in stages has become unthinkable, and the aggression and its mercenaries must be aware of this because the humanitarian file cannot be compromised or politicized as it is a legal requirement guaranteed by international conventions."

In turn, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for Maritime Affairs, Captain Muhammad Ishaq, explained that there are plans and studies being prepared with the aim of developing the Yemeni Red Sea ports to be more expanded and able to receive more commercial ships.

While the head of the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority, Dr. Muhammad Abdel Qader, revealed that international airlines have come forward to operate flights through Sana’a Airport, stressing that Sana’a Airport provides air navigation services in accordance with international conditions and standards and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
