SANA'A September 17. 2023 (Saba) - President of the Supreme Political Council Mahdi al-Mashat on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 44 agricultural and fisheries projects worth 5.7 billion YER, funded by the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit in the capital Sana'a.

The opening of these projects comes within the framework of the Yemeni people’s celebrations of the ninth anniversary of the glorious September 21 Revolution and the anniversary of the Prophet’s Muhammad's birthday 1445 AH.

Al-Mashat inaugurated nine Projects worth over 5.9 million YER.

The projects that were inaugurated included the capacity project and improvement of educational means for the College of Veterinary Medicine at Sana'a University, which consisted of four study halls and the expansion of the capacity and improvement of educational means for the College of Agriculture, which included the establishment of a study hall and rainwater harvesting basins in the Colleges of Engineering and Agriculture.

The projects included supporting the activities of the plant sector at the Veterinary and Agricultural Institute in al-Hasaba area in the Capital, renovating the veterinary hospital, filtering and deepening the artesian well in Shu’ub district, rehabilitating three nurseries in Dar Salam and al-Thawra Park, supplying and installing an electricity generator for the Dar Salam nursery, and maintaining and rehabilitating al-Ahadan Farm in al-Rawda area in Bani al-Hareth district, rehabilitating and activating the central slaughterhouse, restoring and rehabilitating Noqum slaughterhouse in Azal district, and supplied a stock of diesel to the projects of the Project Finance Unit and the Agricultural and Fisheries Initiatives.

President al-Mashat laid the foundation stone for 30 agricultural and fishery projects worth 4.5 billion YER, the most prominent of which are agricultural export development projects, the establishment of processing factories for agricultural and fishery products, the establishment of fish selling points in the Capital's districts, and the establishment of a rainwater harvesting countryside in Sa'awan.

The projects for which the foundation stone was laid included a nursery in the village of al-Qabil in Bani al-Harith district, the rehabilitation of the fodder factory and the leather tanning factory in the central slaughterhouse in Dar Salam, the establishment of a rainwater harvesting basin in Attan area in al-Sabeen district, and the second phase of expanding the absorptive capacity and improving educational methods in the two colleges of medicine and Veterinary and Agriculture University of Sana'a and others.

Al-Mashat inspected the progress of work being implemented in five projects worth 773.4 million YER, including rainwater harvesting basins in Rash Dar al-Haid, the Eastern Presidential House in al-Sabeen district, the rehabilitation and restoration of the slaughterhouse and its annexes in the central slaughterhouse in Dar Salam, as well as two supply and agriculture projects, fruit trees, forest trees, flowers and palms in the central islands, triangles and main streets.

President al-Mashat viewed the water caravan for feeding and harvesting rainwater at the College of Agriculture at Sana’a University, with a capacity of 75 thousand cubic meters, and its water source from the western mountains surrounding the capital Sana’a.

He stressed the importance of agricultural and fisheries projects that contribute to the development of this sector and achieving food security and self-sufficiency, and one of the most important basic pillars of the national economy.

The President praised the efforts made by the leaders of the Capital Sana'a, the Ministries of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, and the relevant authorities in promoting the agricultural sector, developing fisheries, and other development projects.
