MOSCOW July 08. 2023 (SABA) - Russia on Saturday considered the decision of the United States to provide Ukraine with cluster munitions to be "evidence of weakness" and aimed at prolonging the conflict.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement that the U.S. decision announced on Friday "is an act of desperation and a sign of weakness against the backdrop of the much-publicized Ukrainian counter-attack failure."

According to Russian media, the U.S. decision shows "the hostile anti-Russian path adopted by the United States, which aims to extend the conflict in Ukraine as long as possible", noting that Kiev's pledge not to use these weapons against civilian-populated areas is "worthless."

Zakharova said: "By providing cluster munitions, Washington will in fact be a partner in the mining of the area and will take full responsibility for the victims of the explosion, including Russian and Ukrainian children."
