[23/June/2023]

GENEVA June 23. 2023 (Saba) - The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, warned of an uncontrolled situation in the occupied West Bank, following recent attacks by Jewish settlers in several Palestinian areas as the Zionist entity continues to use sophisticated military weapons.

In a statement on Friday, the High Commissioner called on the Zionist entity's authorities to abide by international law, with regard to the use of lethal force, following their aggression in the Jenin refugee camp last Monday, which resulted in the martyrdom of seven Palestinians, including two children, and the injury of some 91 others.

Türk called for the effective investigation of killings by Zionist enemy forces with sufficient evidence of violations of national or international law and called for suspected perpetrators to be held accountable.

The High Commissioner said that "Israel must urgently reset its policies and procedures in the occupied West Bank, in line with international human rights standards, including the protection and respect of the right to life as the occupying Power, it also has obligations under international humanitarian law to ensure public order and safety within the occupied Palestinian territory".

From the beginning of this year, the occupied entity had killed at least 179 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including East Al-Quds, including 30 children. Over the past year, 230 Palestinians had been killed in the occupied West Bank, including East Al-Quds, the highest figure in the past 17 years.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights stressed that "in order to end this violence, the occupation must end in all aspects.
