SANA'A June 07. 2023 (Saba) - A workshop on "International Humanitarian Law - Law of War" was concluded at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Capital Sana'a, organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross in cooperation with the Ministry of Information and the Diplomatic Institute.
A two-day workshop aimed to acquaint 35 participants representing print, audio, and visual media with the tasks, activities, roles, and objectives of the International Committee of the Red Cross, its independence and impartiality of work, and its humanitarian mission during armed conflicts.
Participants received knowledge about the relief committee's interventions and ways to support the livelihood of the most affected people and groups, as well as introducing them to international humanitarian law.
The workshop discussed a number of working papers, the first entitled "An Introduction to International Humanitarian Law" by Dean of the Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed El-Imad and the second working paper on introducing International Movement of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, presented by Iskandar al-Maamari.
The third working paper focused on the principles of international humanitarian law and the categories and objects covered by its protection, it was presented by legal advisor of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Yemen Ali Deeb.
The fourth paper presented by ambassador Waheed al-Shami which reviewed the relationship between international humanitarian law and international human rights law and Yemen's position among them, while official spokesman of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Yemen Ali Daoudi dealt in the fifth working paper and the cooperation of the International Committee of the Red Cross with various media outlets.
In the sixth paper, Deputy Head of the Committee's delegation in Yemen Ralph Wahba reviewed the method of work of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the protection activities it implements.
In conclusion, El-Emad, stressed the importance of the workshop to familiarize the participants with international humanitarian law and the role and efforts of the International Committee of the Red Cross in providing assistance and providing support and protection to the affected and civilians during armed conflicts in accordance with the principles of humanitarian law.
Al-Emad pointed out that the institute seeks to hold qualitative and specialized courses and workshops for media professionals and journalists, given the importance of their role in reporting events and writing humanitarian reports realistically and their eagerness to spread the truth.
For his part, Wehba stressed the importance of the role of journalists and media professionals in the humanitarian fields and their contribution and cooperation with the committee in humanitarian work.
In turn, Director of Relations at the Ministry of Information, Mohammed al-Nashiri pointed out the importance of the workshop in developing the capabilities of participants from various media outlets on international humanitarian law.
