MAHWEET April 30. 2023 (Saba) - MAHWEET April 30. 2023 (Saba) - Four people were killed in Hufash district of Mahweet province due to the torrential rains.
Director of the Civil Defense Department in Mahweet Major Adel Issa said a large water reservoir of Mohammed Nasser al-Aqabi's family in Hufash collapsed due to heavy rains as the flood went down the mountain, killing four people who were inside a mosque for noon prayer.
Issa pointed out that the body of Mohammad Hajar was found in the valley while the bodies of Mohammed M. al-Wusabi, Khaled al-Mua’yana and Mohammad Ali Hajar are still missing until this moment.
The Civil Defense Authority and the Red Crescent moved to the scene to search for the three missing persons.
Citizens appealed to the concerned authorities to take urgent solutions and address the repercussions of the torrential damage and the losses of citizens caused by the explosion of the large water reservoir.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture for the Irrigation and Land Reclamation Sector Eng. Mohammad al-Wusabi and Director of the Agriculture Office in the province Mohammed al-Jaradi paid a visit to the collapsing reservoir.
Al-Wusabi said the water reservoir of the family was at the top of the mountain and was filled with rain water, adding the walls of the reservoir collapsed at the noon prayer, causing deaths and damage to agricultural lands.
He confirmed that a technical team will be assigned to determine the technical causes of collapsing, assessing the damage, and issuing circulars banning the construction and implementation of water barrier projects for citizens without conducting studies or designs, and according to the required conditions and standards.
