Transport Minister warns of catastrophic repercussions if (Safer) reservoir explodes
[13/August/2022]

HODEIDA, Aug. 13 (Saba) - The Minister of Transport, Abdulwahab Yahya al-Durra, warned of the catastrophic repercussions in the event of an explosion of the floating reservoir (Safer) on Yemeni shores and the countries of the region in the Red Sea, extending up to the Suez Canal.

"The world is well aware of what it means to pollute the marine environment and kill marine life and the wealth that exists from coral reefs and others, formed thousands of years ago in Red Sea waters, in case God forbid there was an explosion of the floating reservoir (Safer)." Transport Minister said Friday.

He stressed that the United Nations should expedite the provision of an alternative to the Safer floating reservoir, in order to avoid any significant environmental catastrophic repercussions along the Red Sea, especially as funding was available from the donors' conference, where it exceeded $70 million.

The Minister of Transport noted that his visit comes to see the level of performance and to assess the activities in the ports of the Red Sea Foundation and the Authority, the functioning of its future plans and projects, as well as the difficulties it faces and ways to address them and all that will improve performance to the best level.

He affirmed the Ministry's readiness to provide all necessary facilities for the success of the plans, programs and projects of the Foundation and the Authority. Stressing the intensification of efforts to sustain activity, maintain the level of existing projects, and expand its activities and investments.
