Sanaa International Airport warns of near-depletion of fuel reserves, interrupts of planes' services
[01/September/2020]

SANAA, Sep. 1 (Saba) - Sanaa International Airport management has warned of its inability to provide air navigation services to receive United Nations and humanitarian and relief organizations' planes in the coming days due to a close depletion of its oil derivatives stockpile.

According to a statement issued by the airport, a copy of which was received by Saba that under the arbitrary measures by the aggression coalition countries to prevent the entry of oil vessels, the airport's stock of diesel and oil is running out and that the available quantities will cover operational needs for only a few days.

The statement stressed that the airport administration is unable to run generators, fire trucks, and other equipment for providing services to UN and humanitarian and relief organizations' planes that arrive and leave Sanaa International Airport daily.

"If the oil vessels held by the Aggression coalition for more than five months and the rapid availability of petroleum products are not released, this leads the airport being completely closed before UN flights and humanitarian organizations' plane," the statement read.

The statement called on the United Nations and international organizations to intervene urgently to provide oil derivatives to ensure continued work at Sana'a International Airport and to provide services to the United Nations, its affiliated organizations and other humanitarian organizations operating in Yemen.
