U.S. Decision on Zionist Settlements heralds new Palestinian Intifada
U.S. Decision on Zionist Settlements heralds new Palestinian Intifada
U.S. Decision on Zionist Settlements heralds new Palestinian Intifada
[20/November/2019]

The U.S. decision toward Israeli settlements in the West Bank occupied by the Zionist enemy has provoked widespread reactions at the Arab and international level because of its negative repercussions on the chances of reviving the so-called peace process in the "Middle East", the name that the United States of America and the Zionist enemy seek to establish in the mind with the aim of annexing the Zionist entity to the map of the Arab region and extracting indirect recognition of the occupying entity.

"The Us decision is totally contrary to international law," said, a spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Nabil Abu Rudeineh said in a statement that Washington "is not qualified or authorized to repeal international resolutions and has no right to give any legitimacy to Israeli settlement.

Abu Rudeineh's statement came in response to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's announcement that his country no longer considers Israeli settlements "contrary to international law."

Abu Rudeineh blamed the U.S. administration for "taking full responsibility for any repercussions of this dangerous situation."

The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem had warned Americans not to travel to Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza, shortly after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced washington's easing of its stance on Israeli settlements. , this is in a sense of what the unjustified American decision might trigger from the unwelcome Palestinian positions, the consequences for everything that is American in occupied Palestine, especially after the American position proved Washington's impartiality in dealing with the Palestinian peace file in the region and its bias towards the Zionist entity. And the expansionist colonial Zionist policies.

"The U.S. Embassy advises U.S. citizens who are at home or are considering traveling to or through Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza to be vigilant and take appropriate steps to raise security awareness in light of the current situation," the embassy said in a statement.

"Individuals or groups opposed to the secretary of state's recent announcement may target U.S. government facilities, U.S. special interests and U.S. citizens," the embassy said.

According to international observers, the resolution has sparked a wave of anger in Palestinian circles that could portend a new Palestinian intifada that will spread throughout the Palestinian territories, especially since the US decision indicates Washington's complicity with the occupying Zionist entity in the middle of Zionist settlements on the Palestinian territories. The legalization of occupation and circumventing previous international resolutions in this regard, in order to reposition the usurped Zionist entity and its policies in the occupation of the Palestinian territories in accordance with the American-Zionist plan.

The resolution also raised the concerns of many Arab and Islamic countries, which are still reacting to the American decision to blow up the resolution for a large-scale intifada in the Palestinian territories, which claims the lives of many of the defenseless Palestinian people, especially since the Zionist occupation forces meet Many Palestinian protests are suppressed without the United Nations or the international community moving towards it.

This comes at a time when the Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations Riyad Mansour revealed that he began consultations with members of the UN Security Council, starting with the Arab member of the Council, The State of Kuwait, to mobilize international positions to counter the illegal Us declaration on settlements.

Mansour added in a press release on Tuesday that the Security Council will hold a meeting on Wednesday on the Palestinian issue, and that the Us position, which is contrary to the law and international legitimacy, will be the focus of the discussion at this meeting.

He noted that he had sent identical letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Security Council (Britain) and the President of the General Assembly, including the position of Palestine, which condemned and rejected the United States Secretary of State's illegal statements on Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including Jerusalem.

The occupying Zionist entity welcomed the United States decision on Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying that the U.S. decision "corrects a historic mistake." He called on other states to take a similar position.

On the Arab level, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi warned of serious repercussions of the change in The United States' attitude toward Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. He pointed to its negative reflections on the chances of reviving the peace process in the region.

Safadi said on Twitter that Jewish settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories are illegal and destroy the chances of a two-state solution that provides for the creation of a Palestinian state alongside the occupied Zionist entity.

It is well known that such a solution is adopted by some Arab countries as the only way to resolve the Arab-Zionist conflict that has existed for decades. Other Arab countries are taking different positions that affirm the right of the Palestinian people to obtain their occupied territories.

At the international level, EU Foreign Policy Commissioner Federica Mogherini said that the EU's attitude towards Israeli settlements remains unchanged and considers them to be contrary to international law.

Mogherini said the U.S. decision undermines access to a two-state solution and the possibility of a lasting peace between Israel and Palestine.

In a statement, the Union called for an end to settlement construction in line with Israel's obligations as an occupying power.

Bernie Sanders, the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, called the U.S. decision illegal.

Sanders said in a tweet that President Donald Trump is isolating the United States with such decisions that undermine diplomatic efforts by insisting on extremist positions.

Returning to the U.S. resolution, Washington on Monday effectively supported Israel's right to build Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank by abandoning its four-decade-old position of describing settlements as "contrary to international law."

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's announcement was seen as a defeat for the Palestinians and a victory for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is struggling to stay in power after two inconclusive elections this year.

Pompeo said U.S. statements on settlements in the West Bank occupied by Israel in the 1967 war were inconsistent, noting that Democratic President Jimmy Carter found in 1978 that they were incompatible with international law, while Republican President Ronald Reagan said in 1981 that he did not consider them legal.

In 2017, U.S. President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital and the United States officially opened an embassy in the city the following year.

Observers regarded such a resolution as a challenge to and circumvent previous UN resolutions, especially since UN Security Council Resolution 2334, adopted by the UN Security Council on December 23, 2016, urged an end to Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories, and the text of the resolution Israel's demand for a halt to settlement activity in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the illegality of Israel's establishment of settlements in the occupied territories since 1967.

The resolution was then the first to be passed in the Security Council on Israel and Palestine since 2008.

This resolution is historic given that most of the draft resolutions against Israel are vetoed, with the United States vetoing 42 times to protect Israel, and this is the first time that the United States has not resorted to this right, making it a sadistic and consequently resolution. The resolution was adopted after it was approved by the majority of members.

According to the resolution, Israel's establishment of settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory since 1967, including East Jerusalem, has no legal legitimacy and constitutes a flagrant violation under international law, condemning all measures aimed at changing the demographic composition and status of Palestinian land. Occupied which includes, among other measures, settlements and expansion, the relocation of Israeli settlers, confiscation of land, demolition of houses and displacement of civilians in violation of international law and relevant resolutions, this decision will not recognize any changes in the lines of June 4, 1967 including with regard to In Jerusalem only the changes agreed upon by the parties through negotiations.

It is worth mentioning that the American decision comes as the Occupied Palestinian Territories witnessed a wave of arrests and assassinations of many Palestinian leaders and provoked a wave of anger in the Palestinian circles, including the most prominent leaders Abu Al-Tender and his wife, whose house was bombed last Tuesday, in addition to bombing Al-Ajuri's house in the Al-Mazzeh neighborhood of Damascus, which killed one of his sons.
