SANAA, March 24 (Saba) – The Yemeni Petroleum Company (YPC) on Sunday organized a protesting vigil in front of the United Nations Office in the capital Sanaa to demand lifting the siege on the ports of Hodeidah and Ras Issa and Sanaa International Airport.

The participants in the protest called for the release of commercial and oil vessels held in Djibouti, as the continuation of holding them would result in catastrophic humanitarian repercussions and is considered a flagrant violation of international and humanitarian norms, charters and laws.

The protestors called on the international community to take its responsibility towards the suffering of the Yemeni people, who are subjected to aggression and unjust blockade, stressing the need to neutralize the economic establishments, including YPC.

During the protest, Minister of Oil and Minerals Ahmad Daress stressed the necessity of lifting the siege on the economic sector and oil installations and neutralizing them, as well as reopening of Sanaa International Airport in observance of human rights.

The minister noted that his ministry is seeking to activate the port of Ras Issa as an oil port for humanitarian relief.
