National delegation calls for stopping military escalation in Yemen

National delegation calls for stopping military escalation in Yemen
[23/July/2016]

KUWAIT, July 22 (Saba) – The national delegation to Kuwait consultations called on the international community to move urgently to stop the military escalation of the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.

“As we strongly condemn this dangerous escalation, we call on the international community and the United Nations to assume their responsibility and move urgently to stop this escalation”, the delegation said in a statement issued Friday.

The national delegation underlined that such escalation comes in light of the UN-sponsored peace consultations in Kuwait, which require creating appropriate conditions by all parties.

“ In a risky escalating step, the Saudi-led aggression coalition on Yemen intensified yesterday [Thursday] its military operations in all Yemeni provinces,” the statement said.

The statement pointed out that more than 75 air raids targeted different areas in the country and resulted in dozens of dead and wounded among civilians. The raids targeted also Governor of Sa’ada province along with a number of members of the de-escalation committee and caused different injuries to them.

The aggression stepped up its operations and military reinforcements in several fronts, as well as the dangerous practices by its hirelings in some provinces, the last of which was the brutal military cleansing against residents of al-Sarari village in Taiz province after besieging the village more than a year.

The delegation stressed that this military escalation expresses the lack of truthful will by the aggression forces to establish peace in Yemen, adding that those forces seek to foil the peace consultations and to hinder reaching any possible political solutions.
