UNICEF: Gaza's Children Starving to Death as Aid Remains Stuck at Crossings

Gaza – Saba:

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) issued a dire warning on Thursday about the worsening famine crisis in the Gaza Strip, stating that "an increasing number of children are losing their lives with each passing hour" while life-saving food supplies remain stranded at border crossings, denied entry.

In a statement, the UN agency said Gaza's food crisis has reached catastrophic levels due to severe restrictions blocking humanitarian aid, emphasizing that children are bearing the brunt of this tragic situation.

"The aid is ready, and we have the capacity to save thousands of lives—what's stopping us is the blockade preventing the entry of vital food supplies," UNICEF added.

The agency noted that relief organizations face mounting challenges in reaching civilians inside Gaza due to deteriorating security conditions and the continued closure of crossings, delaying the delivery of food and medicine.

These warnings align with alerts from other international bodies, including the World Food Programme (WFP) and the World Health Organization (WHO), which confirm that Gaza's humanitarian situation is on the verge of total collapse. Reports of starvation and malnutrition-related deaths, particularly among children and infants, are escalating.

UNICEF urged the international community to take immediate action, pressuring authorities to open crossings and allow unimpeded aid access. "Time is running out—every hour of delay costs lives," the agency stressed.

Hospitals in Gaza continue to receive severe malnutrition and starvation cases daily. Currently, 900,000 children in Gaza face hunger, with 70,000 suffering acute malnutrition.

Genocide Under US-European Backing
With American and European support, the Israeli enemy army has persisted in its genocidal war on Gaza since October 7, 2023, killing 60,249 Palestinian civilians (mostly children and women) and injuring 147,089—figures that remain incomplete as thousands remain trapped under rubble or in streets inaccessible to rescue teams.
