Moscow – Saba:
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that the recent trade deal between the United States and the European Union will harm Europe’s industrial sector and energy security.
Speaking at the “Territory of Meanings” youth forum, Lavrov said U.S. energy is significantly more expensive than Russian supplies, adding, “This path will lead to deindustrialization in Europe and a shift of investments to the U.S.”
He criticized European leaders, particularly EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, for following this strategy, which he said would hit Europe’s industry and agriculture hard.
Lavrov also stated that Russia remains open to dialogue with all countries, including European ones, but stressed that the Ukraine crisis is part of a broader Western strategy to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia.
He pointed to recent comments by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz about turning Germany into Europe’s top military power, comparing them to pre-WWI and WWII ambitions.
Lavrov’s remarks follow the July 27 U.S.-EU trade deal, under which Europe will face 15% tariffs on most exports to the U.S. while committing to purchasing American LNG, nuclear fuel, and weapons.
