Sana'a – Saba:
Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Samir Bajjalah, discussed on Sunday in Sana'a with the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) ways to enhance cooperation and partnership in the humanitarian field.
During the meeting, Minister Bajjalah emphasized the important role played by UNHCR in supporting and assisting displaced persons spread across more than 1,700 settlements and camps in the capital municipality and various governorates.
He expressed the ministry's readiness to provide all necessary facilities and address any challenges that may hinder UNHCR’s ability to carry out its humanitarian tasks effectively.
The minister noted that the establishment of a specialized department for displaced persons within the ministry, along with the integration of branches of the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs (formerly) with the offices of social affairs, aims to unify institutional efforts in this vital field.
Bajjalah explained that, amid these structural changes, the ministry looks forward to UNHCR fulfilling its commitments, particularly toward the branches, as this would be a key indicator of the seriousness and sustainability of cooperation.
For his part, the UNHCR representative stated that efforts are underway at multiple levels to mobilize the necessary funding to resume projects and activities that had been suspended in Yemen due to the withdrawal of support from several major donors.
The UN official praised the level of cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, commending the expertise and competence of its leadership in managing social and humanitarian issues.
The meeting was attended by the directors of the Evaluation and Monitoring Department, Displacement and Emergencies Department, Information and Data Department at the ministry.
