The Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Scientific Research, Hassan Al-Saadi, emphasized the vital role of vocational and technical education in advancing comprehensive development.
During the inauguration of a workshop on a project to introduce specialized vocational secondary programs in select secondary schools—organized today by the Secondary Education Sector of the ministry—Al-Saadi highlighted the positive impact of such programs in developing vocational education to address unemployment and meet labor market demands.
He stressed the importance of expanding vocational secondary education by launching new programs, affirming that these initiatives would help accommodate a larger number of basic education graduates, particularly those who drop out, ensuring skilled vocational outputs that serve both society and the job market.
For his part, Deputy Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Scientific Research, Dr. Hatem Al-Duais, underscored the significance of the project in opening new vocational education pathways within public schools and supplying the labor market with qualified individuals possessing technical and vocational skills aligned with local sector needs.
He discussed the project's role in enhancing collaboration between secondary schools and technical institutes to benefit students and society, encouraging students to choose educational paths that match their abilities and interests.
During the workshop—attended by the Undersecretary for Higher Education, Dr. Ibrahim Luqman—the Undersecretary for Secondary Education, Dr. Zaid Al-Hadour, explained that the workshop aimed to familiarize participants, including deans of vocational and technical institutes, principals of targeted schools, and their deputies, with the project’s components and programs.
He outlined the project’s objectives, implementation mechanisms, administrative and financial aspects, as well as its action plan and programs, which include:
- General Industrial Automation
- General Electrical Installation
- General Vehicle Mechanics
- General Computer Science
Al-Hadour noted that seven schools were selected for the pilot phase across five provinces with existing vocational institutes:
- Sana’a Capital Municipality: Three schools—Kuwait Secondary School (paired with the Yemeni-Chinese Institute for Applied Sciences and Technology), Omar bin Abdulaziz School (paired with the Industrial Technical Institute in Dhabhan), and Hael Saeed Anam School (paired with the Industrial Technical Institute on Baghdad Street).
- Al-Hodeida: Al-Thawra School (paired with the Industrial Technical Institute in Al-Hali).
- Ibb: Al-Shahid Rajih Laboza Educational Complex (paired with the Industrial Technical Institute in Dar Al-Sharaf).
- Taiz: 22 May School (paired with the Industrial Technical Institute in Al-Huban).
- Dhamar: Uqba bin Nafi Secondary School (paired with the Industrial Technical Institute in the provinces).
