An internal US State Department document revealed that hundreds of US citizens have left Iran via land routes since the outbreak of the confrontation between Israel and Iran a week ago.
The document claimed that many citizens faced "delays and harassment" while trying to leave, while others left without incident.
The document also stated, without providing further details, that one unidentified family reported the detention of two US citizens trying to leave Iran.
On Friday, the US State Department urged its citizens wishing to leave Iran to use land routes via Azerbaijan, Armenia, or Turkey, as Iranian airspace is closed.
The document stated that the US Embassy in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, has requested entry for more than 100 US citizens, but the Turkmen government has not yet approved.
Meanwhile, Washington is exploring possible ways to evacuate its citizens from the occupied Palestinian territories.
