Napoli, the Italian football champions, announced on Thursday the official signing of Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne on a free transfer, following the expiration of his contract with Manchester City.
The southern Italian club posted a photo of the player sitting with a royal crown on his head on its X account, captioned, "King Kevin is here," and another photo of the player with the caption, "Kevin is proud to be one of us."
Napoli did not disclose the length of the 33-year-old's contract, but Italian media reported that the Belgian international signed a two-year contract with the option to extend for an additional season.
De Bruyne arrived in Rome on Thursday morning to undergo a medical with Napoli. A crowd of fans awaited him at the clinic where he underwent his medical.
After passing his medical, De Bruyne met with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis in the Italian capital to sign the contract to join Antonio Conte's squad.
De Bruyne spent 10 years at Manchester City, making 422 appearances, scoring 108 goals and providing 177 assists. He played a significant role in winning the Premier League six times, as well as the club's only Champions League title.
