Kuwait – Saba:
A Kuwaiti oil tanker has rescued 40 refugees stranded in the Mediterranean Sea after their boat broke down and they ran out of water and food.
The Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) said on Thursday that its oil derivatives tanker, al-Dasma, spotted the stranded boat carrying the refugees on Tuesday evening during a voyage to Egypt. The tanker changed course to rescue them and provided them with water, food, and temporary shelter.
The company stated in a statement published by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that it disembarked the refugees at the Egyptian port of Port Said "in coordination with official Egyptian authorities after completing the necessary procedures in accordance with relevant international and humanitarian laws and agreements."
It noted that this humanitarian operation is not the company's first. In 2014, another Kuwaiti oil tanker rescued a group of refugees off the Italian coast.
The company emphasized that "saving lives at sea is not only a legal obligation, but also a moral duty that embodies the inherent humanitarian values of the State of Kuwait."
