Gaza - Saba:
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, called on Tuesday for a prompt and impartial investigation into attacks on Palestinians trying to access food aid.
He stressed that the aid distribution mechanism established by the Israeli authorities in the Gaza Strip threatens lives and violates international standards for humanitarian aid.
This comes in the wake of the massacre committed by the Israeli army against Palestinian civilians waiting for humanitarian aid distribution west of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the deaths of 27 civilians and the injury of more than 90 others.
The UN High Commissioner stressed, in press statements, that obstructing access to food and basic necessities for civilians in Gaza could constitute a war crime, according to the Sanad News Agency.
He warned that the threat of starvation and genocide that has continued for 20 months, with the killing of civilians, destruction, and repeated forced displacement, all constitute serious crimes under international law.
With American and European support, the Israeli enemy army has been committing genocidal crimes in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023. This has resulted in the martyrdom of 54,470 Palestinian citizens, the majority of whom are children and women, and the injury of 124,693 others, as of yesterday, in a preliminary toll. Thousands of victims remain under the rubble and on the streets, unable to be reached by ambulance and rescue crews.
