Dhamar - Saba:
Dr. Radwan Al-Rab’i, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, and Dhamar Governor Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti visited on Tuesday a model farm in Dhamar to inspect the activities of a hydroponic agriculture unit and the production of organic fertilizers and agricultural supplements from animal and plant waste.
During the visit, accompanied by Shura Council member Abdu Al-Alawi, Fourth Military Region Assistant Commander Brigadier General Saleh Hajeb, Deputy Governor for Development Affairs Ali Atef, and General Authority for Water Resources and Facilities Chairman Engineer Hadi Quraya, Minister Al-Rab’i emphasized the importance of implementing projects to advance the agricultural sector.
He noted that expanding such projects aligns with the directives of the revolutionary and political leadership, as well as the government’s program to focus on modern agricultural production methods, including the production of organic fertilizers, the use of biowaste for fertilization and pest control, and adopting alternative methods to secure agricultural inputs.
Dr. Al-Rab’i praised the efforts of Dhamar’s local authority in encouraging the production of organic fertilizers and adopting successful hydroponic farming models as an alternative to traditional agriculture. He highlighted the need to rationalize water use through modern techniques to ensure high-quality agricultural production, stressing that reducing the reliance on imported inputs requires collective efforts as a first step.
The minister affirmed the ministry’s commitment to producing other types of organic fertilizers and supplements as part of efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in agricultural inputs.
Meanwhile, Governor Al-Bukhaiti stated that supporting organic fertilizer production through the recycling of animal and plant waste is part of broader efforts to develop environmentally compatible agricultural alternatives.
He outlined the progress made in this field, including knowledge transfer from neighboring countries, leading to the production of high-quality "compost" and "vermicompost" fertilizers.
The governor confirmed that the local authority is developing a strategic plan to sort waste, separate organic materials, and utilize them in fertilizer production. The plan also focuses on recycling other waste materials, such as wood, cardboard, paper, glass, iron, and plastic, in collaboration with relevant entities to support sanitation workers.
Al-Bukhaiti called on investors to seize opportunities in this sector, affirming the local authority’s readiness to coordinate with other provinces and central agencies to replicate these successful experiences in organic fertilizer production and hydroponic agriculture expansion.
Farmer Dawoud Al-Murami provided an overview of the steps taken in producing organic fertilizers from plant and animal waste, as well as hydroponic farming as an alternative to traditional agriculture. He commended the local authority’s support in enabling the farm to produce high-quality, eco-friendly "compost" and "vermicompost" fertilizers.
