Tehran - (Saba):
Alireza Yousefi, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister and Director-General for Western Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, rejected recent allegations made by Interior Ministry officials and some members of the British Parliament against the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the suspicious arrest of several Iranian nationals.
According to Tasnim International News Agency, Yousefi emphasized that the police statements and the statements made in the British Parliament against the Islamic Republic of Iran following the questionable arrest of several Iranian nationals demonstrate their disregard for basic legal standards and human rights.
The Deputy Foreign Minister considered that accusing Iran, coupled with the arrest of several Iranian nationals, reinforces suspicions about the political motives behind the arrests of Iranian nationals.
He added, "The bad habit of some British politicians and officials of repeating false and unsubstantiated allegations against the Islamic Republic of Iran will undoubtedly harm relations between the two countries and reinforce the historical mistrust and suspicion held by Iranians toward the British government.
The British government will bear responsibility for this." Alireza Yousefi, Director-General for Western Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also warned of the negative effects and repercussions of the unjustified campaign of accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
He called for Iran to be immediately and accurately informed of the reasons for the arrest of Iranian nationals and to provide them with consular access, emphasizing the need to adhere to the principles of fair trial in their cases.
