Ramallah - Saba:
The Palestinian Prisoners' Media Office has revealed that the number of female prisoners in enemy prisons has recently risen to (31) prisoners, held in the "Damon" prison under difficult and harsh humanitarian conditions.
The Palestinian Safa News Agency quoted the office Wednesday, as saying that the enemy has significantly escalated its arrest campaigns against women in the West Bank and Jerusalem since the beginning of the war of extermination in the Gaza Strip.
More than (500) arrests have been recorded, targeting various age groups, including minors, in a clear violation of the special protection afforded to women by international law during times of conflict.
The office indicated that despite the release of (71) female prisoners during the first phase of the prisoner exchange deal between the resistance and the enemy, the continuation of the detention policy has led to a renewed increase in the number of female prisoners, including two prisoners suffering from cancer.
The Prisoners' Media Center revealed that the occupation authorities are committing the crime of medical negligence against female prisoners, citing the case of prisoner Haneen Jaber, the mother of two martyrs from Tulkarm, who contracted cancer after suffering from chest pain. The occupation forces ignored her diagnosis or treatment, which led to a subsequent deterioration in her health, and her current condition is critical.
The Center emphasized that female prisoners suffer from inhumane detention conditions and are deprived of the most basic rights stipulated in international agreements.
The occupation forces impose a policy of collective punishment on them, and perpetuate abuse and neglect. They are provided with small quantities of poor-quality food, which has led to the spread of diseases and general physical weakness.
The center added that the occupation forces violate the privacy of female prisoners by installing surveillance cameras in their cells, recreation areas, and corridors. The enemy forces also conduct surprise raids on their rooms, which include verbal and physical abuse, tear gas, and sometimes isolating female prisoners under false pretenses. They are also denied visits, books, and food and cooking utensils.
The Prisoners' Media Center also confirmed that the announced numbers of female prisoners do not include those from the Gaza Strip who were arrested during the ongoing Israeli aggression, as they are subjected to a policy of enforced disappearance.
There is one elderly female prisoner from Gaza, Siham Abu Salem (66 years old), in Damoun Prison, whose identity is known, while the actual number of female prisoners from Gaza remains unknown.
The Israeli occupation recently released two female prisoners from the southern Gaza Strip after they had disappeared, which reinforces suspicions that there are others whose identities or whereabouts the occupation refuses to reveal.
