Russian Defense Ministry releases footage of North Korean forces helping liberate Kursk

Moscow - Saba:

The Russian Defense Ministry released footage on Monday of training members of the North Korean special forces that contributed to the liberation of the Russian border province of Kursk.

The video shows North Korean forces training using weapons including Kalashnikov rifles, shoulder-fired grenades, and other weapons.

President Vladimir Putin expressed his gratitude to the North Korean special forces who contributed to the defeat of Kiev's forces and the liberation of the Russian province of Kursk.

He praised the heroism, competence, and dedication of the North Korean soldiers who defended Russia as if it were their homeland, side by side with Russian soldiers, and performed their duty with honor and courage.

Pyongyang, for its part, affirmed that the victory in Kursk thwarted the West's military and political adventures, and that the activities of North Korean forces on Russian territory "are fully consistent with the provisions and spirit of the UN Charter and other international treaties."

It pledged that it "will always and fully support the cause of the sacred Russian army and people, and will remain committed to any actions based on the spirit of the treaty between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Russia."

The Russian Foreign Ministry, for its part, indicated that North Korean soldiers participated in the operation based on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty signed between Moscow and Pyongyang during President Putin's visit to North Korea on June 19, 2024.

In a report submitted to President Vladimir Putin on April 26, Russian Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov stated that the liberation of Kursk Oblast from Ukrainian forces had been completed and praised the role of the North Korean forces that participated in the operation.
