The Yemeni Customs Authority has announced a significant increase in its efforts to combat drug smuggling, reporting several major seizures at customs offices and centers.
Authority head Engineer Adel Margham said the Authority has successfully thwarted numerous attempts to smuggle large quantities of narcotics into Sana'a and other government-controlled areas.
Notable seizures included 207 kilograms of drugs at Nihm Customs Center, 1,650,000 narcotic pills at Afar Customs Center in Bayda province, and 18,045 pills at al-Rahda Customs Center in Taiz.
Margham stated that the Authority is working in coordination with other relevant agencies and has significantly increased the number of smuggling cases referred to the Public Prosecution, exceeding 250 cases – a record high.
He emphasized the Authority's commitment to protecting the nation from smuggling and praised the efforts of customs, security, and intelligence personnel in these operations.
