Moscow - Saba:
Valentin Uvarov, director of the "Space Economics and Policy" research center, said that Russian, American and Chinese experts, in cooperation with the TSTV organization, presented an initiative to clean the near-Earth space orbit of waste.

He added in an interview with the Russian TASS Agency today, Tuesday: "I, along with the American expert Chuck Dickey and the Chinese expert Jiuyu Wang, submitted a proposal to the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs to establish a working group to formulate a pioneering initiative on removing large pieces of space debris."

Uvarov pointed out that the effectiveness of this initiative was tested by experts from TSTV (the permanent observer to the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space) during a "space experiment" at the International Conference on Space Debris and Sustainable Development, organized by the University of Hong Kong.

During this, a study was developed and three main principles of cooperation were developed: sharing costs, risks and information, neutral selection of space debris, and a neutral purchasing system.
Uvarov said that the model proposed by TSTV was supported by a conference attended by scientific experts, representatives of academic circles and governmental organizations from more than twenty countries.

As a result, TSTV experts drafted a "Proposal for the establishment of a working group to formulate and develop a joint plan for the disposal of orbital debris" and sent it to the head of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs.

According to the proposal, the Committee asks the aforementioned UN office to study the initiative during the session to be held from June 25 to July 4.
